    Destination Wedding Photographer. Adventurer. Ninja.

Lover of brussel sprouts, chubby dogs, and Disneyland.

I began taking pictures in middle school when my best friend and I would set up a portrait “studio,” which consisted of hanging up a bed sheet and shining house lamps toward it. Fast forward 20 years and today I am living my dream as a worldwide photographer based in Los Angeles.

Here you will find some of my recent work along with some personal adventures and useless banter.

Grateful. Content.

A friend and I were talking about life (and all that stuff) recently and he asked, “If you could do anything, ANYTHING…and I mean ANYTHING right now, what would you be doing?”

I knew what the answer was but took a good 10 seconds to really make sure.  Wow, is this really the way I feel?  It IS!!

Holy sh*t, I would be shooting weddings.

To be honest, before, I had no idea that this was even possible.  You hear about people doing what they love but to feel it is a whole ‘nother thing.  It’s REAL.  It EXISTS.  Humans are naturally discontent but I get to wake up happy and inspired (don’t get me wrong, I do have my days).

My buddy, on the other hand, said would be playing soccer alongside David Beckham, feeding off the energy of the crowd and sliding to his knees after scoring a goal.  Doesn’t sound too shabby.  I, too, would love to be next to David Beckham (sigh), but hey, I’m actually. . . content!  Neat-O.

undefined

I get to be creative, work with amazing people, CONNECT, witness loving celebrations, travel the world, and enjoy life as it is happening.  There is nothing to obtain.  It’s right here, I’m living it, and I think that is pretty cool.

Feeling very grateful.

Temecula Wedding Photographer: South Coast Winery, Yera & Leonard

My sister called this morning and said, “You aren’t blogging as much.”

I know, I knooooooow.  Blogging slows down a little when it’s wedding season, mainly because my brain is somewhere else.  If not at a wedding, then it’s at the beach. :)

Here are some pictures from Yera & Leonard’s wedding at the South Coast Winery in Temecula.  You can also see their engagement photos taken earlier this year here.

undefined

In love with her smile…

undefinedundefined

Yera and I have the same size feet.  I almost tried these on but refrained.  I don’t think anyone would appreciate my busted feet in their wedding shoes…

undefined

Lacey….preeeeeetty.

undefinedundefined

SOMEONE is excited.  I’m talkin’ to you, ma!

undefinedundefinedundefined

Guys in suspenders…so cute.

undefined

Getting ready for the first look.

undefinedundefined

Love this moment.

undefinedundefinedundefined

Ceremony.

undefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefined

Can’t go wrong shooting in vineyards.

undefinedundefinedundefined

Mariachi band!  So awesome.  Leonard is funny.  After the ceremony he told the guests, “Go down to cocktail hour, now.  There’s a Mariachi band.  They weren’t cheap.”

undefinedundefined

And yes, a PINATA!

undefined

Yera broke it FAST!  I think because someone yelled, “Pretend it’s Leonard!!!”

undefinedundefinedundefined

SPEECHES.  One of my favorite parts of the day.

undefinedundefinedundefined

Precious.

undefinedundefined

Gosh, I love them.

undefinedundefined

First dance.  Sigh.

undefinedundefined

Knife malfunction.  Whoops, it broke.

undefinedundefinedundefinedCongrats again, Yera & Leonard!

More weddings and some other fun stuff to come.  I’m taking off to Mexico in a couple days (darn those destination weddings) but will be back next week!

Yera and Leonard: You guys look absolutely stunning! So honored to have met you, nothing but the best!

San Francisco Engagement Photography: Golden Gate Park, Marcy & Vance

Marcy and Vance . . . I think the pictures pretty much speak for themselves.  I’ll still insert little comments though, because I like doing that!

I love when couples give each other looks that are specifically THEM.  Those in between moments are so damn real. :)

undefined

undefined

Another very Marcy and Vance photo.

undefined

Heads up – there are A LOT of pictures of them laughing hysterically.  So freaking cute.

undefinedundefinedundefined

They are naturally so smiley that this picture looks a little out of place, but I still like it.

undefinedundefinedundefined

Even if they don’t say it, I’m sure the guys HATE me when I ask them to do dorky stuff like this.  Too bad!

undefinedundefinedundefinedundefined

Marcy scored 1000 points in my cool book.  I said “You guys are like little gnomes in the woods,” and then she went in to rub Vance’s nose with hers.  Anyone ever watch the cartoon DAVID THE GNOME?!  I swear my sister and I were the only fans of that show because whenever I mention it, no one knows what the hell I’m talking about.  It was a great show, and the gnomes rubbed their noses.  High five, Marcy.  High five.

undefined

This picture wasn’t included in their official batch of engagement photos but I think it’s hilarious.  Look at the squirrel flying in the back!

undefinedundefined

I was worried one of them would eat it with how fast they were running over those rocks.  At least it made for a good photo.

undefinedundefinedundefined

Ka KAW!

undefined

Lots more laughs to capture at their wedding in September.  Can’t wait!

Tam - July 7, 2011 - 12:10 am

Wow, some of these are just breathtakingly amazing. The running over the rocks, and the bridge picture are my faves. And I don’t even know this couple, haha.

liz trujillo - July 7, 2011 - 3:55 am

Love you photographs!! So real, so personal and full of feeling. They always make me smile and think about love.

Blurry Photos Can Be A Good Thing

Different photographers have different approaches to taking pictures.  For some, it’s about the technical aspect -what camera settings are being used to make sure it is properly exposed and in focus.  For me, it’s the feeling.  It’s the feeling you put into it and sometimes that entails giving up shooting from a technically “correct” standpoint.

Take, for instance, the first dance (one of my favorite moments to photograph at a wedding, btw).  It’s intimate, dreamy (kind of a lame word, but true!), and like no one else is in the room.

Here are two similar moments from Yera & Leonard’s first dance.  Which picture do you like better?

undefinedundefined

I like the second one.

In the first one, the picture is in focus, properly exposed, and taken at an angle where you can see both their faces and exactly what is going on. I like to call this the safe (and sometimes boring) angle.

The second photo exudes way more feeling in my opinion.  They were dancing so the blurriness shows movement, and even though you can’t see the groom’s face you know exactly what is going on.  You can tell he is enjoying the moment.  That is also why I chose to make the picture black & white – to give more focus to the subjects.

So whether you meant to do it on purpose or not, remember that blurry photos can be a good thing.  Where some people delete the blurry photos of the bunch, sometimes I delete the ones in focus!

jeremy - June 27, 2011 - 9:13 pm

agreed! ;)

T - June 27, 2011 - 10:45 pm

I AGREE #2!! :-)

Eng Tau - July 13, 2011 - 7:58 pm

I totally agree!

MY BFF IS ENGAGED!!

It’s been a busy couple weeks with a lot of fun different shoots, including this one.

I’ve had to keep my mouth shut about this for MONTHS (so hard) but it has finally happened and I couldn’t be happier!

My BFF Jess is engaged and I feel SO lucky that I got to witness it first hand!  Her boyfriend (now fiance) Mark liked the idea of having the process documented so I got to be there to take pictures and his best friend Rob video recorded it through a window sill, ninja style.

This was right before the proposal.  Before the tears started pouring uncontrollably.  Ahhhhhhhhh!

undefined

Some basic info about the proposal:

He proposed in the Disneyland Dream Suite above Pirates of the Caribbean (a special place to them).

The ring is from Neil Lane.

Jess had NO IDEA.

undefined

Popping out and surprising her was one of the funnest things I’ve ever done.  Thanks to our Disney tour guide/accomplice Rachel for snapping these.

undefinedundefinedI will do a VERY thorough blog post about the whole thing soon but in the mean time I just wanted to share these.  Super sneak peek!  Mark and Jess haven’t even seen any of the pictures or footage.  I’m gonna put everything together in a mushy slideshow or something to present to them. :)

Rachel!!! Thanks so much for all you did to help that day =). You were a HUGE part of the best day of our lives!
Christine!!!!! Pure perfection as always. I’m sure there are a ton in store, but you managed to get the “good” crying photos! That, itself, takes mounds of talent. Thanks so much for being there to be a part of it all. Love you lots… and lots… and LOTS!
