    Destination Wedding Photographer. Adventurer. Ninja.

Lover of brussel sprouts, chubby dogs, and Disneyland.

I began taking pictures in middle school when my best friend and I would set up a portrait “studio,” which consisted of hanging up a bed sheet and shining house lamps toward it. Fast forward 20 years and today I am living my dream as a worldwide photographer based in Los Angeles.

Here you will find some of my recent work along with some personal adventures and useless banter.

The Sowden House Wedding: Julie Benz & Rich Orosco

I shared photos from Julie Benz & Rich Orosco’s rehearsal dinner recently, and now I am very excited to share pictures from their wedding at the Sowden House!

You can see some of their wedding photos published in US Weekly here.

Heads up – there are a lot of pictures below, so prepare to scroll for a while. ;)

Lucky penny. :)

Kids always create the perfect moments.

I love capturing anticipation.  I always get so nervous and excited for the bride!

Rich always has the cutest smile, but I think nothing beats this smile.

Their faces sum it all up.

The gorgeous bridesmaids dresses are by Theia.

This has to be one of my favorite portraits.  Taking pictures isn’t that torturous, is it?

The food and drinks were beautifully photographed by my fab second shooter Carla Choy.

Guests left the evening with these cute little party favors.

Julie & Rich – once again,  I love you guys.  Thank you for letting me a part of your special day!  I continue to have a fat smile on my face EVERY SINGLE TIME I look through your photos. :)

Happy Father’s Day To My Pops

Dear Dad,

You make me laugh like no one else can. You watch Tom & Jerry. You prance around in your underwear.

You fly down to LA to see me when I am sad. You don’t let much bother you. You are kind. You are calm.

You see the true beauty in things. You are passionate about work. You do what makes you happy.

You love history. You travel the world. You enjoy yourself wherever you are.

You still call me your little girl.

I love that we think the same things are funny, that we appreciate art in the same way, and our unspoken comfort.

I feel like the luckiest girl on this planet. You’ll never know the extent of my gratitude for having you in my life. Thank you for all that you do, and for teaching me how to live a graceful, adventurous, humorous life.

I love you.

Always Try Your Best

Growing up, my mom would always be hard on my sister and I in terms of anything we did.  It wasn’t always easy to hear what she had to say, but through the years I came to understand her message loud and clear:  Always try your best.

A lot of times when we would come home with report cards, she would say “A-?  Why not A+? (literally).”  It wasn’t about an A- not being good enough, but it was her way of saying well did you try your best?  We had a conversation about this recently and I can laugh now looking back at it.  I said, “Hey Ma, remember when…?.”  She said she would make comments like that because she didn’t see us study much, at least not like her generation studied when they grew up.

She was right.  Although an A- isn’t a bad grade by any means, I honestly didn’t try my best.  I could have gotten an A or A+ if I really wanted to (with some classes . . . classes like Physics are a whole ‘nother story).

Always try your best.  These are words I make a strong effort to live by.  You can’t always control the outcome of situations, however, the things you choose to do and how you do them are ultimately the things that define you.

If you put 100% into your work, your marriage, your family, or ANYTHING you do, you will be one happy person.  Is it still possible that you struggle with money, things don’t work out with your partner, or your family continues to do the things that drive you nuts?  Absolutely.  It is very possible.  However, trying your best makes possible for a lot of fantastic things to happen in your life, and you will feel wonderful about the one thing you do have control over: YOURSELF and how you perform/deal with things.

If you try your best, you will have no regrets.  If you put 100% into a relationship and it didn’t work out, you’ll be at peace knowing that you did everything you could.  That person wasn’t right for you but there is comfort in knowing that in order to make possible having the relationship of your dreams, that is exactly what you have to do.  You have to put out your best.:)

And although you can’t control the outcome of things, on the contrary, when you try your best, you tend to become this giant MAGNET.  Often times, what goes hand-in-hand with trying your best is authenticity.  People take notice.  When I was fifteen I worked at Macy’s in the gift wrap department.  Sometimes I would hear people in line whisper, “I want her to do the wrapping,” and then point to me.  I don’t think I’m the best gift wrapper but what I think they saw, was that compared to the others working next to me, I tried my best to be efficient and do a good job.  Nowadays I still try and continue that same work ethic.  What makes it even easier is that photography is something I am truly passionate about!  I care a lot about my art, my work, and often spend an absurd amount of hours editing photos to make sure they are perfect (in my eyes).  I can be crazy compulsive but it seems to be doing me some sort of good.  Shrug.

I could give a hundred other examples like why I drive across town to get my car washed, but I’ll refrain from making this too repetitive and wordy (sometimes I just like to talk/type and now is one of those times).  If you want to share a story or want to hear me blabber on more, feel free to email me or leave it in the comment section below. :)

Engage!12 Luxury Wedding Business Summit: Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Las Vegas

The Engage Wedding Business conference was in Las Vegas this year.  For wedding vendors looking to grow and network in the luxury market, this is in my opinion, the best conference to attend.  It attracts the tip top professionals in the industry!  Visit their site for more info about the program, speakers, and future events.

The conference is 3 days and on the last night they always put on a Gala for the attendees.  My favorite photos are from that night because seriously, you could NOT wipe the smile off everyone’s face!  Thanks to Readyluck Photographers and Scott Clark for doing an amazing job capturing the night (all the pictures here are taken by them.  My camera and I took a rest)!

Note: I realize that posting these pictures might imply that no one in the wedding industry actually works.  Haha. Quite the opposite!  I think this is why everyone had such a good time…we all live similar lifestyles and it was a great RELEASE of stress!  Cheers.:)

I wore my favorite black dress.  Tassels and dancing go hand-in-hand. :)

West Coast Music provided the entertainment. Their bands are AMAZING and they come highly recommended if anyone is looking for live music.  They KNOW how to get everyone on the dance floor!

Our special treat for the evening?  A 90′s cover boy band!!  Boyz II Men, NKOTB, BSB, N’Sync . . .

We all just about fainted.

Guess what song they are singing here.  Just guess . . .

Most of us couldn’t walk right the next morning.  Painful, but sign of a good time!

Thank you to Kathryn Arce and Rebecca Grinnals for making this all possible.  I look forward to the next one!!

I’m still on the road catching up with work, applying new concepts to my business (thanks to the inspiration from Engage!), and preparing for my next weddings toward the end of the month.  Gosh, is summer here already?  It sure is, and THAT GETS ME EXCITED. :)

Love this blog post Christine! Thank you, Thank you for sharing your experience for and your amazing moves on the dance floor! :) We love having you be a part of the engage! family and really enjoy reliving the experience through your blog! Cheers! Rebecca + Kathryn

SUCH a beautiful bride and wedding. The kiddies are irresistible.

Julie Benz & Rich Orosco’s Kogi Truck Rehearsal Dinner

Rehearsal dinners are a great event to have photographed.  Casual events surrounding the wedding hold opportunity for some of my favorite moments!  It also gives me an opportunity to get to know the bride & groom’s friends and family before the actual wedding day.  It makes a huge difference, and I love it. :)

Julie & Rich are laid back, FUN, and their rehearsal dinner reflected just that.

Rich planned the party.  As guests began to arrive, Rich said, “Hey, I have a surprise for everyone.”  He walked down the driveway, looked down the street, and waved his hands as to gesture ‘come on over.’  Shortly after, the Kogi Food Truck pulled up and parked in front of their house!

The food was sooooooooooooooo good.  Rich’s mom practically force fed me and even made me take a bunch to go.  I love you Thelma! :)

Laid back.  Fun.

Julie is so photogenic it makes me sick!  What a beauty.

I love high-fives.  Personally, I can’t through the day without them.

Brotherly love.

I love little love notes.  I saw this taped to the door to Rich’s office.  Tooooo sweet! :)

Stay tuned for pictures from Julie & Rich’s wedding at the Sowden House!  You can also see a sneak peek in this issue of US Weekly. :)
