Some people ask if I ever shoot in a studio. The answer is no.
Studio work is beautiful but it simply is not for me. Long before photography I had an office job and it didn’t take long to realize that I felt equivalent to a bird who got it’s wings clipped and thrown into a cage. Boy I feel horrible for those birds. ![]()
My thoughts are – Why on earth would I want to be cooped up in a room when I could potentially be outside exploring?! This planet is wonderful. So many neat places to go and see, and I feel lucky to have chosen a job that allows me to do just that!
I had a engagement shoot in Joshua Tree. The couple, Chelsea & Jeff, got engaged there exactly one month before so I couldn’t think of a more perfect place to do the pictures. It’s only a couple hours outside of LA and I had never been, so we headed up early to do some climbing and scouting.

Like a giant playground!

Despite her stoutness, my dog Sammie was very impressive on the rocks. Like a mountain goat/hippo.

The boys play rough.

The moon came out early to say hi!

Testing light in Pioneer Town. Chelsea & Jeff’s engagement photos coming SOON! I can’t wait to share them!

Hands down, I would choose to shoot outside instead of a studio any day. ![]()
